The CD Kicking Sawdust is the firstling of the wind quintet Houthandel Antwerpen. This young ensemble of woodwinds has brought some fresh air into the world of classical music. The fivesome won the ‘Jeugd en Muziek Prijs’ (Youth & Music Award) of Gouden Vleugels (Golden Wings) in 2009 with their Grote Houthandel Antwerpen Show. And now they present this debut CD.
Kicking Sawdust means the ‘kickoff in the arena’, the ‘baptism of fire in the ring’ in circus jargon. The band members of Houthandel Antwerpen take their next, adventurous step in their professional development with this CD. Yes, the circus, which is the connecting thread throughout the debut CD of Houthandel Antwerpen. These young artists lift you out of your familiar world with Kicking Sawdust. It feels like an impossible balancing exercise. How do you create an intimate and entertaining atmosphere with a studio recording?
